By accessing the MyJPS Mobile Application & / or Website, also referred to as MyJPS app, and the application&/or website, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and accepted the following terms. In case you do not understand or agree to any of the terms, you should immediately exit this application or website. JPSCo may modify this Terms & Conditions at any time, and you agree that such modifications will be effective immediately upon posting of the modified Terms & Conditions. You agree that by using our application or website after any such modifications, you will be deemed to have reviewed, agreed to and accepted the modified Terms & Conditions.
All contents on the application & / or website are copyrighted by JPSCo unless otherwise stated. Without prior written consent of JPSCo or other parties, any content on the application &/or website shall not be reproduced, distributed, photocopied, played, linked or transmitted with super-links, loaded into other servers in "mirroring method", stored in information retrieval system, or otherwise used for any commercial purpose by any person by any means, unless otherwise downloaded or reproduced for private and non-commercial purposes (provided however, that such use shall not include any revision to the content and the copyright notices and other proprietary notices shall be retained in the same form and manner as on the original).
Refund Policy
Jamaica Public Service will refund an incorrect payment/overpayment made by a customer via myJPS once the following documents are submitted to Collections & Bad Debt Department.
  • Written request by customer
  • TRN number
  • Valid identification, i.e. driver’s licence, voter’s id or passport
  • Last four (4) digits on credit card used to make payment
  • Cardholder’s name
Upon receipt of the above documents the customer’s account will be adjusted in CIS Banner and sent to the Treasury Department who will prepare and forward the refund letter to the bank for the customer’s credit card to be updated with the necessary fund. The Bank (Credit Card Centre) can also make the request on behalf of the customer. This request should be submitted on the Bank’s letterhead and sign by the appropriate signing officer.

Methods of processing
The Data Controller takes appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorized destruction of the Data. The Data processing is carried out using computers and/or IT enabled tools, following organizational procedures and modes strictly related to the purposes indicated. In addition to the Data Controller, in some cases, the Data may be accessible to certain types of persons in charge, involved with the operation of this Application (administration, legal, system administration) or external parties (such as third-party technical service providers, mail carriers, hosting providers, IT companies, communications agencies) appointed, if necessary, as Data Processors by the Data Controller. The updated list of these parties may be requested from the Data Controller at any time.
Legal basis of processing
The Data Controller may process Personal Data relating to Data Subject if one of the following applies: ● Data Subject have given their consent for one or more specific purposes.
● provision of Data is necessary for the performance of an agreement with the Data Subject and/or for any pre-contractual obligations thereof;
● processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the Data Controller is subject;
● processing is related to a task that is carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Data Controller;
● processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the Data Controller or by a third party.
In any case, the Data Controller will gladly help to clarify the specific legal basis that applies to the processing, and in particular whether the provision of Personal Data is a statutory or contractual requirement, or a requirement necessary to enter into a contract.
Place
The Data is processed at the Data Controller's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located. Depending on the Data Subject's location, data transfers may involve transferring the Data Subject's Data to a country other than their own. To find out more about the place of processing of such transferred Data, Data Subject can check the section containing details about the processing of Personal Data. Data Subject are also entitled to learn about the legal basis of Data transfers to a country outside the European Union or to any international organization governed by public international law or set up by two or more countries, such as the UN, and about the security measures taken by the Data Controller to safeguard their Data. Retention time
Personal Data shall be processed and stored for as long as required by the purpose they have been collected for. Therefore:
● Personal Data collected for purposes related to the performance of a contract between the Data Controller and the Data Subject shall be retained until such contract has been fully performed.
● Personal Data collected for the purposes of the Data Controller’s legitimate interests shall be retained as long as needed to fulfill such purposes. Data Subject may find specific information regarding the legitimate interests pursued by the Data Controller within the relevant sections of this document or by contacting the Data Controller.
The Data Controller may be allowed to retain Personal Data for a longer period whenever the Data Subject has given consent to such processing, as long as such consent is not withdrawn. Furthermore, the Data Controller may be obliged to retain Personal Data for a longer period whenever required to do so for the performance of a legal obligation or upon order of an authority. Once the retention period expires, Personal Data shall be deleted. Therefore, the right to access, the right to erasure, the right to rectification and the right to data portability cannot be enforced after expiration of the retention period.
The purposes of processing
The Data concerning the Data Subject is collected to allow the Data Controller to provide its Service, comply with its legal obligations, respond to enforcement requests, protect its rights and interests (or those of its Data Subject or third parties), detect any malicious or fraudulent activity, as well as the following: Device permissions for Personal Data access. Depending on the Data Subject's specific device, this Application may request certain permissions that allow it to access the Data Subject's device Data as described below. By default, these permissions must be granted by the Data Subject before the respective information can be accessed. Once the permission has been given, it can be revoked by the Data Subject at any time. In order to revoke these permissions, Data Subject may refer to the device settings or contact the Data Controller for support at the contact details provided in the present document. The exact procedure for controlling app permissions may be dependent on the Data Subject's device and software. Please note that the revoking of such permissions might impact the proper functioning of this Application. If Data Subject grants any of the permissions listed below, the respective Personal Data may be processed (i.e accessed to, modified or removed) by this Application.
Location permission
Used for accessing the location to identify the user’s current location to report outages, to get location details for any service request.
Camera permission
Used for accessing the camera or capturing images and video from the device.
Storage permission
Used for accessing shared external storage, including the reading and adding of any items.
Device Id permission
Used for accessing push notifications for any activity updates.

The rights of Data Subject
Data Subject may exercise certain rights regarding their Data processed by the Data Controller. In particular, Data Subject have the right to do the following:
● Withdraw their consent at any time. Data Subject have the right to withdraw consent where they have previously given their consent to the processing of their Personal Data.
● Object to processing of their Data. Data Subject have the right to object to the processing of their Data if the processing is carried out on a legal basis other than consent. Further details are provided in the dedicated section below.
● Access their Data. Data Subject have the right to learn if Data is being processed by the Data Controller, obtain disclosure regarding certain aspects of the processing and obtain a copy of the Data undergoing processing.
● Verify and seek rectification. Data Subject have the right to verify the accuracy of their Data and ask for it to be updated or corrected.
● Restrict the processing of their Data. Data Subject have the right, under certain circumstances, to restrict the processing of their Data. In this case, the Data Controller will not process their Data for any purpose other than storing it.
● Have their Personal Data deleted or otherwise removed. Data Subject have the right, under certain circumstances, to obtain the erasure of their Data from the Data Controller.
● Receive their Data and have it transferred to another controller. Data Subject have the right to receive their Data in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format and, if technically feasible, to have it transmitted to another controller without any hindrance. This provision is applicable provided that the Data is processed by automated means and that the processing is based on the Data Subject's consent, on a contract which the Data Subject is part of or on pre-contractual obligations thereof.
● Lodge a complaint. Data Subject have the right to bring a claim before their competent data protection authority.

Where Personal Data is processed for a public interest, in the exercise of an official authority vested in the Data Controller or for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the Data Controller, Data Subject may object to such processing by providing a ground related to their particular situation to justify the objection. Data Subject must know that, however, should their Personal Data be processed for direct marketing purposes, they can object to that processing at any time without providing any justification. To learn, whether the Data Controller is processing Personal Data for direct marketing purposes, Data Subject may refer to the relevant sections of this document.

Any requests to exercise Data Subject rights can be directed to the Data Controller through the contact details provided in this document. These requests can be exercised free of charge and will be addressed by the Data Controller as early as possible and always within one month.

How “Do Not Track” requests are handled

Changes to this privacy policy
The Data Controller reserves the right to make changes to this privacy policy at any time by notifying its Data Subject on this page and possibly within this Application and/or - as far as technically and legally feasible - sending a notice to Data Subject via any contact information available to the Data Controller. It is strongly recommended to check this page often, referring to the date of the last modification listed at the bottom.
Should the changes affect processing activities performed on the basis of the Data Subject’s consent, the Data Controller shall collect new consent from the Data Subject, where required.
How you can access, update or delete your data.
To easily access, view, update, delete or port your personal data (where available), or to update your information, please sign into your Account and update the information available to you there -this is the primary location for all personal data we retain and use on an ongoing basis to manage our relationship other than any historical data we have retained with regards any prior transactions or service/support requests you may have previously exchanged with us.
If you make a request to delete your personal data and that data is necessary for the services you have requested, the request will be honored only to the extent it is no longer necessary for any services requested or required for our legitimate business purposes or legal or contractual record keeping requirements.

We follow generally accepted standards to store and protect the personal data we collect, both during transmission and once received and stored, including utilization of encryption where appropriate. We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the Services you have requested and thereafter for a variety of legitimate legal or business purposes. Personal Data
Personal data is any information that allows you to be identified. The types of personal data the JPS will collect may include but is not limited to details of your name, address, telephone number, fax number, email address, details of your employment, customer and/or premises number, Taxpayer Registration Number, date of birth and details of next of kin.
The JPS will collect personal data from you through telephone contact by personnel in its Customer Care Centre; its representatives, servants and/or agents in its branch offices; and every time you provide your details to the JPS whether through written correspondence or electronically, through mobile applications or otherwise.
The JPS will use your personal data where it is necessary to do so because it is relevant to JPS’ dealings with you such as billing and customer service, or where it is has your consent or where it is required in accordance with the Laws of Jamaica or as requested and/or ordered by the Court.
You may use your username and password to correct or amend your personal data at any time.
Consent
JPS does not collect personally identifiable data about you unless you provide same to the JPS voluntarily and knowingly. This may be done through:
  • Voluntary provision of personal data by you directly to JPS or through our Customer Care Centre;
  • Express consent or acknowledgement contained within a written, verbal or electronic or mobile application process;
  • Consent solicited by JPS (or our agent) for a specified purpose; or
  • Receipt of this Privacy Policy
Use of MyJPS app
When you visit the JPS website, move from page to page, read pages, or download its content onto your computer, the following information may be recorded:
  • The pages visited; and/or
  • The content viewed and/or downloaded.
JPS uses this information to find out how many people visit their web site and which sections of the website are visited most frequently. JPS may use this information to determine what type of information is most useful, improve their website, address your specific needs, provide better customer service and for general marketing purposes.
JPS records the statistical information on the numbers of visitors to this web site, but no information about individuals in particular is kept or used.
Certain JPS employees will be provided with information about a web site visitor in order to serve that visitor’s needs and provide the visitor with information regarding specific products, for example provision of bills electronically.
JPS’ employees are mandated to adhere to strict standards of care in handling confidential information, including the personal data of its customers.
Use of Mobile App
The mobile application will facilitate the review of customer service information, display of billing and usage data, bill payment, customer queries and outage notification.
User Provided Information
The mobile application obtains the information you provide when you download and register the Application to your mobile device. Registration is optional, however, please keep in mind that you may not be able to utilize certain features offered by the mobile application unless the registration process is completed which includes the acceptance of the terms of this policy.
Registration and use of the mobile application requires but is not limited to you generally providing (a) your name, email address, user name, password and other registration information; (b) transaction-related information, such as when you make payments, respond to any offers, or download or use applications from us; (c) information you provide us when you contact us for help; (d) credit card information for purchase and use of the Application, and; (e) information you enter into our system when using the Application, such as contact information.
We may also use the information provided to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices and marketing promotions.
In addition, the mobile application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile devices unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browsers you use, and information about the way you use the Application.
When you visit the mobile application, we may use GPS technology (or other similar technology) to determine your current location in order to determine the city or geographical area you are located within and display a location map with relevant information. This information will only be shared in accordance with the Laws of Jamaica or as may be required by JPS to address any customer related issues. If you would require not to change your location for the purposes set forth above and throughout this Privacy Policy Document, you should turn off the location services for the mobile application located in your account settings or in your mobile phone settings and/or within the mobile application.
Kindly note that uninstalling the application from your mobile device may disable the data collection functions of the application. This can be done using the standard uninstall functionality in your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network or by contacting your mobile service provider.
Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information
We will retain user provided data for as long as you use the mobile application and for any time period thereafter as required by JPS. Some or all of the user provided data may be required in order for the mobile application to properly function and automatically collected information in original or aggregate form may be needed for the mobile application or its support systems to operate and update normally and effectively.
Your Consent
By using the mobile application, you are consenting to JPS processing your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by JPS from time to time. The processing of your information involves using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in any location or jurisdiction as deemed advantageous by JPS, its agents, employees, servants, contractors and partners.

JPS may use “cookies” on its application &/or website. A “cookie” is information that a website puts on your hard drive so that it can remember pieces of information about you when you next visit the website or a related website. JPS may use cookies to record personal data about you when you use its application &/or website in order to facilitate your future activities. If you prefer not to receive cookies from JPS’ website, you can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies and refuse the cookie when your browser alerts you to its presence. You can also refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. Please note however that some functions of the web site and mobile application may require the use of cookies, thereby restricting the use of “cookies” may affect the quality and operation of website and mobile application on your device.
Security of your personal data
JPS has in place appropriate technical and organizational security measures, according to reasonable and accepted norms and standards within the technology industry, in order to prevent unauthorized or unlawful disclosure or access to or, accidental or unlawful loss of or destruction, or alteration, or other damage to your personal data. These measures ensure an appropriate level of security in relation to the risks inherent in the processing and the nature of the personal data to be protected. JPS will try its utmost best to ensure that your personal data will only be accessible by authorized employees and agents of JPS.
Please be aware that communication sent over the internet, such as email/ webmail, are not secure unless they have been properly encrypted and secured. Your communication may route through a number of countries before being delivered as this is the nature of the World Wide Web. JPS cannot accept liability that communication may be obtained by an unauthorized person. Please ensure that you take reasonable steps to protect your communication with JPS especially when using a web browser. In some areas of our application &/or website, we require a user ID and password for you to access certain information. JPS will not disclose such password to third parties; however, you are responsible for maintaining the privacy and security of your password.
Complaints about JPS use of personal data
Should you make a complaint to our Customer Care Centre and your complaint is not resolved, your complaint will be passed to the Technology and Innovation Department as well as the Legal and Compliance Division for review. Any finding of misuse of your personal data by the JPS shall be investigated.
